SAFE SPACE CAC

Safespace Children’s Advocacy Center of The Gorge [Substantial Completion 2023], Hood River, Oregon

This project was a wide-sweeping gut & alteration to an existing building for the new Safespace home, doubling its client capacity and providing much needed administrative spaces as well as a second level alteration intended to accommodate children’s mental health services.   The construction project was funded by mostly private donation, with several large grants awarded by entities such as the Ford Family Foundation, and numerous smaller-scale local contributions.  The facility consolidates the efforts of Child Protective Services, local law enforcement, medical and psychological practitioners in processing child abuse cases occurring within Hood River, Wasco, Sherman, and Klickitat Counties as well as the Umitilla, Warm Springs, Yakama, and Nez Perce Tribes.  The project included extensive acoustical detailing due to the sensitive nature of the facility, as well as structural upgrades for accessibility due to the clinical nature of the second level.  JDA assisted Safespace from the site selection process & facility programming to through construction, serving as architect for the project.  JDA also developed renderings of the project that were used for fundraising purposes.  At bidding, the project came in approximately $500,000.00 under budget.  Coffman Engineers provided Structural, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering for the project.
